# LPS v5.6 quality summary

v5.6 extends the hourly-complete ERA5 catalogue from the former JJAS-centred
population to all calendar months. It retains every event admitted through the
v5.4 fixed-core route and adds 435
events from a liberal off-monsoon computational preselection. Both routes must
pass the same strict final-centre physical-event gate; no genesis-location,
storm-identity, year-quota or official-list rule selects an event.
Every observed detector candidate in all 1,678
v5.5.1 events is retained in v5.6; one former event is physically split across
two v5.6 event identities, while none of its observed detector fixes is lost.

The linked source was independently audited from 1940-01-01 00 UTC through
2025-12-31 23 UTC: all 1,032 calendar months are present.
The first and last retained event positions are 1940-04-30T20:00:00Z and
2025-12-03T10:00:00Z; those event-dependent dates are kept separate from the full
analysis period.

The v5.5.1 intensity method is unchanged. For 2020-2023 the catalogue mean
seasonal counts (winter, pre-monsoon, monsoon, post-monsoon) are
2.00, 3.50,
14.00, and 5.75
systems per year, compared with official IMD report means of
0.50, 3.00,
13.25, and 8.00.
The all-season frequency error improves on v5.5.1, while 2015-2025 IBTrACS
event recall is not reduced overall or in any off-monsoon season. These are
ERA5-derived IMD-equivalent labels, not official best-track classifications.
